Flow Chart of Neohesperidin dihydrochalcone
Application Areas
Neohesperidin Dihydrochalcone
Product Description
Neohesperidin dihydrochalcone, sometimes abbreviated as neohesperidin DC or NHDC, is an artificial sweetener extracted from citrus fruits.
In the 1960s, when American scientists were researching ways to reduce bitterness in citrus juice, neohesperidin was hydrogenated with potassium hydroxide and another strong base to become NHDC. At critical concentrations and bitterness masking properties, the concentration of sweeteners is 1500-1800 times higher than that of sugar sweeteners.
Neo Dihydrochalcone (Neo DHC) is synthesized by chemical treatment of neohesperidin, a bitter component found in the peel and flesh of citrus fruits such as bitter orange and grapefruit. Although it originates from nature, it has undergone chemical transformation, so it is not a natural product.
