Extending lifespan by nearly 20%! This flavonol glycoside can prolong healthy life, improve sleep, and support brain health!
Aging is a complex biological process characterized by the decline of physiological functions over time, serving as a major risk factor for numerous human diseases. As the global population continues to age, extending lifespan and improving healthspan have become urgent priorities. A study published in the journal Biogerontology this September demonstrated that hyperoside can significantly prolong the lifespan of Caenorhabditis elegans (19.97%) and enhance brain health.

1. Extend lifespan by nearly 20% and improve brain health
Caenorhabditis elegans (hereinafter referred to as C. elegans) is a worm with a short lifespan, easy observation, and genetic manipulation. Due to its genes and signaling pathways that regulate lifespan being highly similar to those of humans, it is widely used in aging research. The researchers randomly divided the nematodes into five groups, with one group serving as the control group without any treatment, and the remaining four groups receiving daily doses of 50-400 μ M of hyperoside. The results showed that all concentrations of hyperoside significantly increased the lifespan of nematodes, and 100 μ M was the optimal concentration, which could prolong the lifespan of nematodes by 19.97%.
Moreover, hyperoside can prolong the healthy lifespan of nematodes. Further research has found that hyperoside can enhance the motility of nematodes (significantly improving body curvature, pharyngeal pumping rate, and muscle mass), and reduce the accumulation of the aging biomarker lipofuscin in their bodies.

In addition, research has found that hyperoside can significantly protect dopaminergic neurons in Parkinson's disease nematodes from neurotoxin 6-hydroxydopamine induced degeneration, thereby effectively improving the brain health status of Parkinson's disease nematodes.

2. Hypericin: a flavonol glycoside with multiple health benefits
Hypericin is a flavonol glycoside widely present in the fruits and whole plants of natural plants such as Rosaceae (hawthorn, etc.), Rosaceae (Hypericum perforatum, etc.), and Ericaceae. Hypericin was first extracted and isolated from Forsythia suspensa in 1937.
Hypericin mainly exists in the form of glycosylated flavonoids in nature. Quercetin, a natural flavonoid compound, is linked to galactopyranose through a β - glycosidic bond, hence it is also known as quercetin-3-O - β - D-galactopyranose.

Modern research has shown that hyperoside has a wide range of biological effects, including anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antidepressant, and organ protective effects, and can regulate various signaling pathways, metabolic processes, cytokines, and kinases.
1) Anti inflammatory
Studies have conducted in vivo and in vitro experiments on the anti-inflammatory effects of hyperoside. The research results all indicate that hyperoside exerts anti-inflammatory effects by regulating the PI3K/AKT/NF - κ B, MAPK signaling pathways, and Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathways, and can inhibit bone and joint inflammation responses and reduce inflammation levels in ulcerative colitis rats.
2) Multi organ protection
Hypericin exhibits a wide range of organ protective effects. In terms of cardiovascular function, it can improve myocardial contraction, reduce infarct size, and alleviate heart failure by regulating apoptosis and autophagy. In terms of liver protection, hyperoside can not only alleviate liver fibrosis caused by heart failure, but also improve drug-induced liver injury, chemical liver injury, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. For the kidneys, it can inhibit oxidative stress and inflammation through multiple signaling pathways, thereby preventing kidney stones and reducing heavy metal toxicity. In addition, hyperoside can prevent osteoporosis by increasing bone density and strength, demonstrating its multi-target pharmacological activity.
3) Neuroprotection
Brain health is an important component of anti-aging in the body, which is crucial for cognitive function and emotional regulation, and is closely related to cerebrovascular diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, and mental disorders.
Research has found that hyperoside can promote the upregulation of monoamine neurotransmitters and increase the levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factors, thereby playing an antidepressant role. Moreover, hyperoside can inhibit oxidative stress, alleviate inflammatory reactions, and resist apoptosis, effectively reducing brain and neuronal damage caused by cerebral ischemia-reperfusion, and improving motor deficits, spatial memory, and learning abilities in Alzheimer's disease mice.
3. The preferred sleep aid ingredient in Japan, GABA's stress reducing agent
The global market for hyperoside is showing a steady growth trend. According to data from Boyan Consulting, the global market size for hyperoside is expected to reach 4.5 billion US dollars in 2022, and is projected to reach 6 billion US dollars by 2027, with a compound annual growth rate of approximately 5.8%. In this context, China, as one of the world's largest producers and consumers, has a market size of approximately 1.2 billion US dollars in 2022, accounting for 26.7% of the global market share. However, in China, the application of hyperoside is currently mainly concentrated in the pharmaceutical field and has not yet been officially included in the list of health food and new food raw materials.
In Japan, the application of hyperoside is relatively mature, and functional labeled foods containing hyperoside are often used to improve sleep quality. Studies have shown that hyperoside can alleviate anxiety, promote relaxation, and significantly improve sleep quality by regulating neurotransmitter balance, antioxidant and neuroprotective effects.
Nutrico has launched a capsule of Forsythia suspensa extract (500mg/capsule) mainly containing hyperoside as the active ingredient, which can alleviate low mood, tension, and anxiety, and help maintain a positive emotional state.
